Help → PopFile? Quit Working Windows XP
Popfile suddenly quit intercepting incoming emails and affixing a bucket label to the Subject line. As far as I know I haven't changed anything on the computer for months. I have installed Python, but that's all. Perhaps this is the source of my problem. Please help.

Which email program are you using? I assume you are still able to receive mail but this mail is no longer being classified by POPFile so all of your mail ends up in the in-box.
I think the first thing to do is check that your email program is still configured to use POPFile. For POP3 mail the email program should be using 127.0.0.1 as the POP3 server and the POP3 username should be something like pop.myisp.com:username (the exact details depend upon the email service you are using).
The POPFile wiki has instructions and screenshots for a range of email programs (also known as 'mail clients') in the HOWTOs section.
If your email program is no longer configured to use POPFile and you are not sure about how to fix this, ask for help before trying to change the settings in your email program.
(If you are using Gmail or another service that requires SSL then the settings need to be adjusted slightly to make POPFile use SSL. I'm trying to keep things simple so I won't go into more detail now.)
The Windows version of POPFile comes with some diagnostic software that can be used to check your POPFile installation.
POPFile uses a database to hold the data used to classify incoming mail. If this database gets damaged then strange things can happen. You can check the database using this Start Menu shortcut:
Start -- All Programs -- POPFile -- Support -- Check database status
(You will have to shut down POPFile before you use this shortcut, otherwise the database cannot be checked).
There is also a diagnostic utility that runs some checks on the POPFile installation:
Start -- All Programs -- POPFile -- Support -- PFI Diagnostic utility (full)
The database checker and diagnostic utility display reports in a scrollable window; if you right-click in that window you can copy the report to the clipboard and paste it into a forum reply.

That did it. When POPfile first stopped working, I checked my email accounts in Outlook and discovered the 127.0.0.1 address entered as my POP3 server. At that point I was not getting any mail at all and concluded that the local host IP address entered as POP3 was the problem. So I changed that and my username to reflect original settings. I don't know what caused the stoppage of my email, but I have followed the HOW To instructions of Outlook and all is working properly now. Silly me. Thanks for the help!
