Microsoft email accounts (*.live.com SSL) can't use POPFile (1.1.3)

Not sure this is POPfile's issue. I think MS changed something.

I have always had the occasional error with the 3 MS email accounts, Outlook 2010 and POPfile. But, in the last week or so, it has gone from the occasional error, to 100% failures.

Here is the actual error (names changed to protect the... ME!):
Task 'MSN-Randyored - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC91) : 'Your e-mail server rejected your user name. Verify your user name for this account in Account Settings. The server responded: -ERR can't connect to pop3.live.com:995'

If I remove all the "POPFile" configurations from the Outlook settings (going raw - straight to MS with no POPfile) the 3 accounts logons work 100% of the time.

I think MS has changed something that broke SSL on MS accounts. I have 2 other accounts that use SSL and they continue to work fine with POPFile.

Can this be checked out, duplicated, verified?

EDIT: BTW, I have backed up my POPFile data and performed a clean POPFile 1.1.3 install with no data restore. Issue still there in a raw POPFile install.

Thanks,
RandyO

Can this be checked out, duplicated, verified?

I've just tried using POPFile 1.1.3 to check my Outlook.com account and it failed.

Since POPFile 1.1.3 was released there have been several updates to the OpenSSL library POPFile uses to handle SSL connections so I installed the SSL updates from the zip file mentioned in message:1917 and tried again. This time POPFile was able to login to the Outlook.com mail server.

POPFile log extracts from two attempts at checking for new email in an Outlook.com account:

    (a) POPFile 1.1.3 (fails to login to Outlook.com)

I think MS has changed something that broke SSL on MS accounts

The problem is really that POPFile 1.1.3 does not use an up-to-date version of OpenSSL.

The SSL updater was meant to be a temporary fix until POPFile 1.1.4 was released but things did not go according to plan and over a year has passed since the temporary fix was uploaded:

Thanks for the testing and fix. Applied this SSL update and emails are working 100%.

I have been using and loving POPFile for years. I was afraid I was going to have to find something else. But, now all is well.

      Again, Thanks!

Looks like MS continues to play with SSL. I am getting increasing slow downs and error issues with the updated version listed above from Sept 2015. This does not happen with my other accounts. Any SSL updates that can help?
