Popfile rc1&2

Running Xp home.

When getting e-mails - popfile crashes,
Get Microsoft error reporting window - send error -etc.

Take the mouse pointer near to the tray icon - icon disappers.
Only way to get more mail is to close Outlook and restart Popfile & Outlook

Any ideas please?

Try using the Message Capture utility to run POPFile.

Shut down POPFile then use this Start Menu shortcut to run POPFile:

Start -- All Programs -- POPFile -- Support -- Message Capture utility

By default the Windows version hides some console messages. This shortcut will display these messages in a scrollable window. If POPFile is crashing then the messages shown in this window may help explain what went wrong. The scrollable window makes it easy to copy and paste those console messages.

Have you ever seen the problem with POPFile 1.0.1?
Can you send me the Dr. Watson's log?
For more information about the Dr. Watson, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308538

Have you tried the Message Capture utility which Brian mentioned above?

And can you tell me the content of the error message?

Have you ever seen the problem with POPFile 1.0.1?

POPFile crashes whenever you try to get e-mails via POPFile?

Are you using any other POP3 proxies such as anti-virus software?

            If I'am doing it right?

Shutdown POPFile and execute the Message Capture utility until the error occurs.
The Message Capture executes POPFile internally and captures messages POPFile outputs.
You can receive e-mails via POPFile.

If POPFile crashes, some error messages will be recorded in the utility.
Please copy the message and paste it to this forum.

tried Dr watson unable to find any error log file.

You mean that you have not been able to find the log file?
Or you have found the log file but you have not found the record that POPFile crashed in the log file?

If you couldn't find the log file, click Start -> Run... and Type

        C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson

        and execute.

        You'll find the file 'drwtsn32.log'.

            Thanks for the log.

According to the log, it seems that Win32::GUI module is the cause of the problem.

Do you enable the POP3 concurrent connections?
If so, disable it temporarily and check if the problem still occurs.

And, if Win32::GUI module is the cause, you may be able to avoid the crash by disabling the system tray icon.

              Yes

              OK

system tray icon. - Flashes now when getting mail never did before?

                OK

                Thanks for your report.

I'll look into why Win32::GUI cause crash.

system tray icon. - Flashes now when getting mail never did before?

To avoid crash, POPFile destroys and recreates the tray icon when the user connects to the POP3 proxy.
I've thought that I could solve the crash problem, but I was wrong.

                  Concurrent connections not selected -
pofile has been ok today - no problems

Also perhaps I mis-understand the meaning of concurrent connections?

                  Thanks

                    Hi Ian

                    We've released POPFile v1.1.0 RC3.
Can you try this new version?

                    Thanks for your report.
I think I've found the cause of the problem and I've committed a small
                    patch to fix the problem.
This patch will be included in the next RC.

Also perhaps I mis-understand the meaning of concurrent connections?

If you enable the concurrent connections, POPFile will allow your mail
client connecting to itself in multiple times at a time.

For more information about the POPFile options, please see:
