Open Discussion → SSL and upgrade from POPFile 1.1.1 to 1.1.2
I use POPFile 1.1.1 and one of the email accounts uses SSL. Will I be able to update to POPFile 1.1.2 without needing to change the Outlook Express 6 server account name for the SSL POP email service that I use.
The server account name is on the lines of
pop.virgin.net:995:user@virgin.net:ssl,pop
It wasn't half fiddly to get working and I would rather stick with POPFile 1.1.1 than have to go through another session of very bad language, LOL.

The changes to SSL support in the Windows version of POPFile 1.1.2 are internal changes. This means your current account settings in Outlook should still work.
I assume the ":ssl, pop" at the end of your account name should have read ":ssl, apop"

Thanks for that post, Brian.
'pop' works, 'apop' doesn't. What is the difference?

Have you tried it without the ',pop' (i.e. simply use pop.virgin.net:995:user@virgin.net:ssl) ?
APOP adds an extra level of security. According to Wikipedia, "RFC 1460 introduced APOP into the core protocol. APOP is a challenge/response protocol which uses the MD5 hash function in an attempt to avoid replay attacks and disclosure of the shared secret."
POPFile's wiki has a few references to APOP:
What is APOP
Does POPFile support APOP ?
Can I use APOP and SSL together?
I've heard of APOP but have never used it. I do not remember ever hearing about adding ',pop' after the 'ssl' option.
