Moving Messages in Outlook Express

  • 1. In Outlook Express select the Tools→Message Rules→Mail…

  • 2. The New Mail Rule window appears.

  • 3. Outlook Express cannot use the X-Text-Classification header, which would allow mail filtering to occur completely in the background. So instead, click Where the Subject line contains specific words and also click Move it to the specified folder.

  • 4. Now click the blue highlighted contains specific words link and the Type Specific Words dialog appears.

  • 5. Enter the name of one of your buckets, surrounded by [square brackets], then hit OK. Now click the blue highlighted specified word and the Move dialog appears. Click the folder you want to move messages from that bucket to and hit OK.

  • 6. Hit OK.
  • 7. Repeat the process for each of your buckets, and then OK out.

You're done!

Note: In the POPFile web interface, under the Buckets tab, make sure Subject Header Modification is turned on for all buckets you want to be able to use Outlook Express filters on. Messages you want to keep in your inbox do not need Subject Modification. The current setting will be written next to a button that allows you to choose the opposite setting. If a setting is On for a bucket you will see “On [ Turn Off ]”.
