Removing Messages

Description

I have never been able to have POPFile automatically remove messages. On the configuration panel I have "Number of days history to keep" set to 2.

Is there something else I need to set to have messages over 2 days old automatically removed? If I were not to go in and manually delete messages, how long would the messages accumulate and where is the storage taken from?

Do you keep POPFile running all the time or do you keep starting and stopping it?

POPFile will check once per hour to see if any old messages need to be deleted. If you only run POPFile for, say, 45 minutes at a time then it'll never get around to deleting any old messages.

The UI's CONFIGURATION page has a "Purge Now" check box and an "Apply" button you can use to make POPFile immediately delete any messages older than the time limit you have set.

By default these old messages are kept in the 'messages' folder inside the folder containing POPFile's configuration file (popfile.cfg). The UI's ADVANCED page shows the location of the popfile.cfg file.

If you are using the Windows version of POPFile the location will be shown in SFN format which may not be very readable so the Windows installer creates a Start Menu shortcut that will display the location in a more readable format:

Start -- All Programs -- POPFile -- Support -- PFI Diagnostic utility (simple)
