Description

When I've upgraded my mail server box yesterday, this triggered a "stop crash" in Popfile:

2010/11/13 01:36:38 378: imap: 501: Looking for new messages in folder spam.backscatter. 2010/11/13 01:36:38 378: IMAP-Client: 334: << A61690 NOOP[0d][0a] 2010/11/13 01:36:38 378: IMAP-Client: 439: >> * BYE Server shutting down.[0d][0a] 2010/11/13 01:36:38 378: IMAP-Client: 451: Got unsolicited BYE response from server while reading response for NOOP. 2010/11/13 01:36:38 378: IMAP-Client: 485: !!! Server said something unexpected !!! 2010/11/13 01:36:38 378: IMAP-Client: 228: NOOP failed (return value -2)

The process was still running: popfile 378 9.1 4.3 44232 11380 ? R Nov06 993:58 /usr/bin/perl /usr/share/popfile/popfile.pl --set config_piddir=/var/run/popfile/ --set logger_logdir=/...

I've now restarted POPFile and it started working properly again.

Here's another side effect of this, POPFile exited because of the server shutting down:

  • status changed from new to assigned.
  • owner set to manni.

Replying to blueyed:

Here's another side effect of this, POPFile exited because of the server shutting down:

Did POPFile exit or just the POPFile IMAP client? The latter is the desired behavior.

This were two different occasions, and in both cases POPFile was not working anymore.

POPFile itself does not appear to have exited (in the first case at least), but apparently did not start the IMAP client again?!
