POPFile release candidate RC2 available (June 21, 2009)

The next release (1.1.1) will include several improvements.

A new release candidate (RC2) is now available for testing in a cross platform version, a Windows version and a Mac OS X version.

RC2 includes some performance improvements when large databases are used.

The Windows version includes an updated minimal Perl and some new programs built using the latest PDK. It is possible that some features may not work properly on Windows 9x, Millennium or NT because the system requirements for Perl and the PDK now say "Windows 2000 or later".

New look for the POPFile Statistics page (February 5, 2009)

The POPFile Real Time Statistics page has been revised to provide a better summary of the reports submitted by users. By default POPFile does not send any information to us but on the SECURITY page in the UI there is an option which can be turned on to make POPFile send once per day the following three values to a script on getpopfile.org: bc (the total number of buckets that you have), mc (the total number of messages that POPFile has classified) and ec (the total number of classification errors).

These three values get stored in a database which is used to generate some statistics about how people use POPFile and how well it works. Our web server keeps its log files for several days and then they get deleted; we are not storing any connection between the statistics and individual IP addresses.

POPFile v1.1.0 has now been released (November 30, 2008)

This release includes a lot of changes, including support for SQLite 3.x, improved versions of the Windows service and system tray programs and, at last, an installer for Mac OS X. All three versions are available here.

WARNING: This release will convert your existing database from SQLite 2.x to the new 3.x format. The new SQLite 3.x database cannot be used by POPFile 1.0.1 or any earlier version of POPFile. Although POPFile will make a backup copy of your old SQLite 2.x format database it is recommended that you also make your own backup copy before you try to upgrade your existing installation.

Moving away from sourceforge (Mar 2008)

We are in the process of moving POPFile away from Sourceforge to its own dedicated server. An update to POPFile version 1.0.0 will be done through Sourceforge and we will then completely move in here.
