Configuring Pegasus to work with POPFile

This document describes how to make Pegasus Mail work with POPFile. The first part (this one) describes how to change your Pegasus Mail settings to use POPFile as a proxy.

If you want to learn about setting up filtering rules in Pegasus to filter mail based on POPFile's classification, have a look at Moving messages in Pegasus.

If you want to tweak Pegasus to give you a clickable link for each message directing you to the POPFile UI, see Customize Pegasus Mail to Show the X-POPFile-Link.

It is assumed that both Pegasus Mail and POPFile are installed and running and that their basic concepts and terminology are understood.

Mail Configuration

POP3 Configuration

  • 1. From the menus, pick Tools → Internet Options.

  • 2. Select the receiving (POP3) tab.
  • 3. Click on Edit if you are using Pegasus 4.12.
  • 4. Note the original POP server in the 'POP Server' box, you will need it below.

  • 5. Replace the contents of the POP Server box with 127.0.0.1 .
  • 6. In the Username box, put the original POP server followed by a colon : to the front of the username that is already in the box, e.g, if username was username and original POP server was pop.myisp.net, then the box should contain pop.myisp.net:username

  • 7. Click OK, repeat for any other Identities that are to be configured for POPFile.

SMTP Authentication

If your ISP requires SMTP authentication for sending mail, you will also have to configure your username and password as follows:

  1. Tools > Internet Options > Sending (SMTP).
  2. Click “Edit” if you are using Pegasus 4.12 and then change to the “Security” tab.
  3. Select the option that lets you enter a username and password. Make sure you do NOT use the option to log in with the POP3 username.
